HSN Reaching Out to Younger Audience Through More Distribution Channels

Shoppers returned to the malls and main streets in force this spring, cheering store owners. But at least one retailer was happier for the many that stayed home instead.

With television remote or computer mouse in hand, couch-sitters still bought, driving record sales at HSN Inc. (HSNI). That's the formal name of the St. Petersburg, Fla., company many know as the Home Shopping Network.

The company reaches into 94.4 million U.S. homes through cable, satellite and over-the-air transmissions. Even more customers can watch and buy online at its HSN.com site, and through videos streamed on Google's (GOOG) Youtube.com. Now HSN is reaching out to younger shoppers through more distribution channels. New applications allow users to watch and shop on the iPhone and other mobile hand-helds.
